Jon Bon Jovi was filming a music video on Tuesday, Sept. 10 when he helped save a woman in crisis on a Nashville pedestrian bridge.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department shared surveillance footage from the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. The YouTube video, which has since been removed by the platform, showed the musician approaching the unidentified woman standing on the ledge.

After a few minutes alone, the Bon Jovi frontman and another woman help carry the woman in crisis to a safer part of the bridge.

Bon Jovi continues to speak with the woman in crisis before they walk away from the area together.

"A shout out to @jonbonjovi & his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Ped Bridge Tue night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety," the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

"It takes all of us to help keep each other safe," MNPD Chief John Drake added.

A rep for Bon Jovi could not immediately be reached for comment.

The musician was filming a music video on the bridge, which was open to the public when the incident happened, and he offered a helping hand.

Bon Jovi's foundation, the JBJ Soul Foundation, routinely deals with people in crisis, from hunger to homelessness, among other issues, so he has extensive training in speaking to individuals in crisis, PEOPLE confirms.

The JBJ Soul Foundation's goal is "to recognize and maximize the human potential in those affected by hunger, poverty and homelessness by offering assistance in establishing programs that provide food and affordable housing while supporting social services and job training programs," according to its website.

In February, Bon Jovi was recognized as the MusiCares Person of the Year for his philanthropic efforts.

Laura Segura, Executive Director of MusiCares, praised Bon Jovi in a statement after announcing him as the honoree in October 2023.

"His remarkable contributions to rock and roll have not only left an indelible mark on the music industry, but also in the hearts of countless fans around the world," Segura said. "Furthermore, his long-standing commitment to serving food-insecure and unhoused individuals inspires us all. We’re looking forward to celebrating him and the many ways he has made a difference in this world."

Bon Jovi's most recent album, Forever, was released in June.
